You don’t have a revenue problem. You have a systems problem.

When growth stalls, most teams hire more salespeople or spend more on ads. The real leaks are usually in the systems between marketing, sales and customer success.

When revenue misses target, the instinct is to add fuel: more salespeople, more ad spend, more outbound. Sometimes that works. More often, the extra fuel pours straight through the same holes that caused the miss.

In most growing companies, revenue leaks through the gaps between teams and tools: leads that are never followed up, deals that sit in a stage for weeks, customers who quietly churn because nobody saw the warning signs.

Where the leaks usually are

  • Lead handoff: marketing passes leads to sales with no agreed definition of “qualified”, so good leads go cold.
  • Pipeline hygiene: stages mean different things to different reps, so the forecast is a guess.
  • CRM data: missing fields and duplicates make every report an argument about the numbers.
  • Retention: there is no early warning system, so churn is discovered at renewal time.

Fix the system before adding fuel

Start by measuring conversion between every stage of your funnel for the last two quarters. The stage with the biggest drop compared with your benchmark is where the next dollar of effort pays back most.

Then fix the process at that stage: define what “done” means, assign an owner, automate the handoff and review it weekly. Only once the system holds water does it make sense to pour more in.

Growth decisions should be based on data, not assumptions.

If you want a quick read on where your own leaks are, the free Revenue Leakage Check estimates what tighter conversion and retention could be worth to your business.
